Create the mood, the setting, the piece of mind, the aura in a room, the magic by merely a setting. What do I mean by a setting? To me it is the immediate mood captured in a time capsule surrounded by other elements, a painting, a perfect still life in real life.

How do I go about creating moods? Something captures me for a few seconds or moments. I ponder over an antique spoon or a floral arrangement I’m working on. I seem to literally stop and dwell in the moment when I’m in a creative mind set. I’m lost in it and then I realize I was painting with my brain. I like those moments a lot, it’s refreshing. I can’t completely explain it, but everyday items speak to me. That is why it’s hard for me to throw stuff away as I just might be able to use it.

So if you want to set a table for the holidays or put out towels for your guests in the bathroom, create a mood, something your guests will never forget. Don’t think about it too much, just let a setting call you in. Start with placing something on a table, tray or tub. Take it away if you don’t like it and place another object and ponder. Let it make you dream or take a memory like an old photo of your dear friend and you having a cake fight or something. Place it on a silver platter with chocolates and a rose.

Take this concept into everything you decorate in your home. Let your environment see with your own hands and eyes all that you’ve created in your mind and soul. When you see it and it makes you smile, you know you got it right.
