If you’ve been procrastinating, as I have, about inviting some guests over because you don’t want them to see your unfinished home, maybe its time to get to work. You might break your back to do it all in one or two days but you know what, it gets done. I always find that I wait and wait until I have the guests on the calendar and then, wham! I’m on it.

We always feel that we have to keep up with the Jones’ so to speak. We are relentless when it comes to excuses but have a party, and you’ll be at the nearest hardware store picking up those items you’ve needed fixing for ten months.

I made an even bigger challenge for myself this past weekend. I invited a client into my home. You may think we have these perfect homes; I constantly get told, “I bet your house is beautiful”, but the truth is us designers are not much different than anyone else. We want it to be perfect so we don’t invite anyone until we have it that way. So, I decided that I needed to get something done and by inviting the client over, I was motivated to act. One and one half days later, I’ve completely repainted the master bath and refined all the details of the home that would make if suitable for showing, at least by my high standards.

Paint is easy. It really makes things look pretty and clean. And, ya know what? You get rid of the clutter and it looks so nice when you have the minimalistic look. I did not put anything back on my sink counters in the master bath except for a soap dish just to keep away the clutter and I love it. It really looks clean and pretty. I of course, had a nice plant on the huge jacuzzi tub and pretty towels hanging. But, I kept it clean and simple and it is nice.

Long story, short. If you’re procrastinating on doing something to your home, maybe its time to invite some friends over to motivate you.
