Lots of things or Clutter?

I’m always searching for new looks or something new to write about in this blog. Today, I ran across a old article in House and Garden that disturbed me. I’ve never been a big fan of lots of floral prints and especially if they are layered all about the room. This room is stunning except for the over abundance. I just think they got carried away.
There is an imbalance when there is so much stuff. I’d rather use the word junk but it would not apply to the photo I’m showing as the furnishings are top of the line antiques and such. They are nice, all in there own place but too much mixed up together makes me feel stuffy. Notice how all the vertical elements are fighting each other. Why so many candles? I’m sure the owner loves to collect things and that’s cool. I just think there is too much standing around. It takes a great eye to know when to place something and when to just leave things alone. A selective accessory can be a focal point. If there is too much commotion going on around the decor it all gets lost in the shuffle.
In order to make more sense out of this, let me just say this, “Keep it simple or understated” and you will have tremendous success in your design theory for your home or business. The eye’s need a place to rest. The body will follow the mood in the room whether it’s a trapped environment or one that flows smoothly.
