A young man named Jordan has been helping me out with my transition/move. He’s only 19. I find him to be one of the most self-sufficient lads I’ve met in a long time. He reminds me of my brother at that age. He ran away from home at 15 and survived much like Jordan is doing today.

Jordan is homeless. Not in the sense that he’s living off the street. By no means as he is always looking to earn a dollar. He’s got a tough attitude about his folks and I’m not sure what that’s all about, nor do I want to intrude. What I do care about is his willingness to survive in Orange County of all places. He is living breadcrumb to breadcrumb and sleeping in the back of my brother’s trailer at night. My bro has helped him plenty as well by giving him work, food and such. Jordan lived at different places before that and got kicked out and I’m not sure about that either but again, he’s worked so hard with me and still wants me to call him.

Jordan has talent and can do just about anything. If I want him to fix my phone lines and computer, no problem there right? He can file, data entry, paint a wall with expertise, carry a huge load – he must only weigh 105 pounds, and he just keeps saying, “Whatever ya want.” He is also musician of electronic music and aspires to make record his first album and own his own record company.

The reason I’m taken by Jordan is he doesn’t really have huge self esteem but he has passion. He is so unlike most young adults his age. My niece is self sufficient to a point but she’s foolhardy when it comes to wasting time. I guess we’re all guilty of being a little lazy at that age. At nineteen, I was going to school and had a baby, so it I didn’t have time to waste time, but maybe I didn’t have enough focus back then. It’s hard to look back and remember but I just have to smile when I think of Jordan. I wonder how many other Jordan’s are out there like him. I’m sure plenty. If you know someone like that, stand up and give them a high-five.
