Hobbies Lost, Identity Theives

Click to enlargeHow many of you out there have a hobby? When was the last time you dabbled at it?

Some are very serious about their hobby such as my husband. He is a great singer. If he doesn’t have a gig, he’s not complete. I think that is true for all of us. Some people lost their desire along the muddy path of life. Some completely forgot about their favorite pastimes. Some sit and watch too much television or spend way too much time on the computer.

When was the last time you picked up a paint brush or graphite pencil to sketch even a doodle? What about puzzles or model making? Or, how about a sport? If you love rugby or soccer, swimming or tennis, golf or go carting, it might be time to get going again.

Doing something you love will always keep your blues away, even if you can only engage once a week. There has to be a bigger purpose for your own life than just work. Ultimately, it would be great if you could make a career out of what you love to do. I’m slowing crossing a path. It takes time to develop a series of paintings that I feel are worthy of showing to a gallery. I am in the process now of selling off anything that I feel is not worthy. Don’t ask me where I will be selling it.

I want to start fresh and surprise myself with a collection that is stimulating together. I think it is important to rid our lives of stuff that bothers us. Time to let go of just stuff. Right now, I have odds and ends. I have practice work of abstracts, bad figurative and just not so great art. When I count them up, at least I can say the worthy work is growing steady. This past weekend, I took my time to work diligently on one piece. When I got bored or frustrated, I just stopped. I worked on another painting until I started adding too much paint and had to wipe it off. I was trying to accomplish more than I could in one weekend.

Do you think you don’t have enough time? Look again, put down the TV remote, find a few moments to write a goal for yourself and get in to action. Don’t let time rob you of your identity. Make your day!
