Drawing Day 2008 Brings Artists Together

Genius web designer and entreprenuer, Mick Gow has come up with yet another awesome idea. I’ve known Mick for a long time and he’s always seems to have some really great idea percolating, his latest being DrawingDay.org. The idea behind the site is to get as many artists together on one day a year and draw as many pieces as they can, hopefully hitting the self-proposed goal of 1 million drawings that day. It’s lofty, but with all the buzz that’s been surrounding this site, I’m sure it’s one they’ll accomplish.
Some time ago, Mick started a social media drawing site which has turned into a small hit for him. I asked him what brought on the idea of Drawing Day. This is what he had to say.
I was trying to think of ways to get people from other art communities to [my other site] - but shortly realized that it would just be an awesome thing to bring all the art communities together and take advantage of all the social sites. Any traffic to my site is a bonus but it’s not been the main motivation for the project. It’s a pretty cool thing to be part of - especially if it gets big.
One side note: Mick asked me not to link to or mention his other site because he didn’t want to take away from the importance of DrawingDay.org. Of course, his site is linked to as a participating site for the Drawing Day event. So take yourself over there and look around. Subscribe to the blog and get regular updates, but at the very least, make sure you put any of your drawing skills to good use on June 7th, 2008.
