Weekenders - Sit Your Butt Down

Seating is a #! priority for me and it had better be comfortable. I have of a lot of meat on my derrière but it’s not near enough to create comfort on a hard sofa. In fact, right now we have the most uncomfortable seating. No matter what degree of a “couch potato” you are, our sofa would not work for you.
Today, I’ll give you some resources to the best looking contemporary seating with style and comfort. I selected all white sofas that look similar but with a different price point and flair.
Barclay Butera Home - This is my pick of the week for overall beauty and comfort.
A. Rudin - #2667 looks very similar. It would have to be the sit test to see which one wins.
BoConcept - has got some real beauties! Love their site but dizzy to navigate. It’s a bit too hip for users. I’d prefer things sitting still so I can look at them. I understand how you can move around the room — just goofy for my eyes.
Kat Burki Home - If you want something that leans a bit more transitional, try this new kid on the block. Their new to my book and I’ll put them on the favorites.
Calligaris - Five Stars should say it all for this sofa. Not so sure on the rest of the line but getting points like that should suggest this puppy is comfortable. Anything in Italy is sure to look good but the price point on this is pretty reasonable.
Room Service - Another look alike but very very nice. This site is one to land on for awhile. Their Love Sofa in bright pink is soooo much fun!
Jayson Home and Garden - This is the least favorite. I couldn’t find a similar look in leather but this is the closest style. Looks a bit sloppy for the price but their Hugo chair steps it up a pace.
That should give you some great hunts to sit your butt down on! If you want to purchase from the trade, give me a jingle!

Weekenders - Modern Furniture
Posted by Michele | Filed under Furniture, Weekenders, What's Hot
I haven’t touched on furniture in awhile, so this is the week for it. Modern is my game today.
Modernfurniture - What a better place to start then with the name itself. This company carries the basics of black leather sofas all the way to lighting. Perfect for the bachelors or anyone who loves the sleek and reasonable.
chiasso - My pick of the week. This chrome ottoman is to die for. Make sure you open up the larger window to see the detail on it. It’s stunning!
Vintage Looks - The egg chair above is just one of the many cool pieces.
Contemporary Furniture - This platform is one of the best pieces at this site. I’m not crazy about most of the accessories and such but this is cool. I also found some sofas that are great for the price.
Swanky Design - If you want simple understated glass tables, this is the spot. I don’t know how this glass is supported. Quite a feat to design that!
KMP - The best seating in signature pieces for that real lounge look. If I could redesign my home tomorrow, this is what I’d do. In fact, I’d take that white and red room and repeat it. They’ve got some talent putting up those displays. Love it!
2modern - I never forget about kids. This desk space and lounge chair looks substantially strong and very functional. Kids are always on there knees, so why not make a desk they can kneel on???
Viesso - Too many glass tables in one home can be cold to me. I like mixing things up a bit. I could see a glass coffee table but when it comes to dining and sitting around, I might choose this dining table along with the buffet. They pride themselves on their how they have green products and their rub count on finishes.
Tommasini - If you are limited on space, this is the cleanest with function. I like the open end on this end table yet you can place all of the books you read at night. That is unless it falls on your chest first and you are too tired to put it down.
Zfurniture - has two things I’m truly digging. The barstools and the white entertainment center. That would go with my red and white room by KMP.
Just Plain Cool Design
Posted by Michele | Filed under What's Hot

Normally, Dave is the one to make comments on miscellaneous design stuff, but today I came across a couple of things I must post because they are just plain great design. I remember when someone asked me to define “cool.” You can’t define it; it just is. Like Louis Armstrong said, “It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that swing! (Do bop, do bop, do bop!)”
This watch from Swell.com is the coolest I’ve seen in a long time. To me it looks like a fine piece of furniture.
Then there are contemporary furnishings that also are very hip, like these vases from Brocadehome. I love the silver chrome color. Why are these on my cool list? They are timeless shapes, yet the chrome makes them very contemporary. The great thing about this finish is that you can place them in any surroundings to match other chrome finishes, such as on your drapery hardware or glass coffee table.

When you think of the word “cool,” you tend to think of people. The first to come to my mind is Johnny Depp. Some think he’s nuts, but he’s a trend setter for sure, and maybe that is a way to look at what cool really is. I do see things out there in the fashion world that are just ugly or bad design, and the worst part of it is the flock that follows the fashion parade. Young people can often get away with wearing cheap-looking clothing. It’s just acceptable, but what about the just trashy-looking ideas. Let’s take this photo below, for example, which Modern Girl showcased this week. I don’t want to give the girl on the right a hard time, but see how beautiful the gown is in this very contemporary textile.

The bystander’s dress has a similar detail. Imagine if she just put on some strappy shoes and carried a beaded bag and a delicate shawl. Wouldn’t that be cooler than the heavy boots? This is my point about trying to be a bit too trendy. If you work too hard at it, it just can’t happen. The same is true for interior design. There are so many things out there that are very hip now, but will they last the test of time? Will you end up crying the blues because you spent too much money on a whim?

Let’s look at a lighting fixture by Eurofase. I think this company does it right. The designs are always on the cutting edge but can fit well in to unique locations. They might be way-out-there for most folks, but I can see their designs in hotels, nightclubs and my next home.
Long and short of it all: Take your time and analyze your design theory—your wardrobe, your car purchases—what you would define as extraordinary in hipness, beauty and, most of all, Class with a capital C.
Be selective and be Cool.
