Home Organization - I’m Guilty of Not Following My Own Advice

I’m at that point where I might hire someone to organize my world. Most of my daily regiment I work on clients decor, placing orders, emailing and writing for the blog. Then I move to my domestic duties like cooking a nice dinner for my husband and I. The household duties seem to always come in last place. I have a great life but I wish I could blink and a magic fairy could wave her wand and cure my clean-up woes.

Time is on your side if you have more than yourself to assist. Handing out the “Honey-Do list can work in your favor as well. Create a simple list so no one feels overwhelmed. This worked for my husband. He finished three out of four things on the list and that was good enough for me. I’ll just add the last one to the top of the next list. Ha ha!

The garage is always an event because we keep throwing things in instead of out. I hate preparing for garage sales, but they can free up your space and your spirit, not to mention bring in a little fun money. I’ve found the secret to garage sales is keep them small and simple, and only do it for one day. No sense in wasting your entire weekend. What does not sell can be donated for a tax deduction. The rest, toss it!

My ultimate goal would be to have a garage that looks like the one pictured. The hard part about organizing is deciding on what you truly need and want to keep. The next is letting go. That is why a third party might be the key. After some research I found someone who might change my life. I spoke with Jane Reifer at Clutter Control Organizing Services this evening. The fee seems reasonable to organize my office space, give me peace of mind and improve my productivity. The initial process starts with a four hour session with an assistant and you. They sort through your needs and create a functional atmosphere. It makes total sense to me to spend the money. Time is money after all!

Keeping records and accruing paperwork is grueling but vital for tax time. Here is the next best thing since sliced bread. Neatreceipts has a scanner that keeps records of purchases. Now, that’s impressive. Now, if I can just get the robot to teach me how to use it!

The truth of this whole story here is that organization takes time but once you’ve conquered it, your life can change significantly. Feng Shui is a real thing. Consider how each day falls in to place is you have your ducks in a row. If I start with my exercise routine, clean up the kitchen, make the beds and pick up, my day goes much smoother. Multiply that thought by the rooms you have. You can see how a wee bit of dissaray might mess up your flow. A big mess will overwhelm your energy. Start with one room or your mini-garage sale until you have a complete feeling of peace in the area. If it’s too much for you to handle, call in the experts. I believe I’ll be making some more calls in the next week or so. There just aren’t enough hours in the day.
