Figurative Art is probably my favorite in terms of imagery. Today, I was searching around and ran across this artist. His name is Mark McDonnell. I don’t have much info on him other than the link. He doesn’t say much on his blog “The Art of Gesture Drawing” but he shows all of his fabulous illustrations. This is what I found out about him. I did find his resume and he seems to be quite prolific. He’s been a prop designer, a background designer, a development designer and illustrator, among other jobs, for all kinds of Hollywood related companies including Disney.
My son is probably going to get on my case because I should know who this guy is but I swear, I’ve never seen his name. Now that I have, I will study his work. He amazes me how prolific he is. Now, some of this might be due to sketching and not painting in oils or some time-consuming medium. But, still he has numerous blogs that have multiple images. It looks as if he just sat down each day and sketched. I wish I had that much time. I love the fluid and loose ripping of the pencil. You can see by the movements that he is so free. It takes time to develop that and I certainly haven’t mastered it. I’m sure that he’s had tremendous schooling or maybe one of the lucky ones with natural talent, but I’m guessing it’s because he’s put in a lot of hard work.
I hope someone out there reaches him to tell him we’ve paid some tribute to his masterful mind and talents.
