Scan0004A few weeks back, I talked about an Arts and Crafts home that I was working on. I’ve provided them with color consultation for all wall treatments and some stone finishes. As each phase is finished I will be taking some before, during and after shots. I will share them when they are ready for the unveiling.

I found some interesting fireplace solutions to show the client. One is very simple and very down home. This was designed by architects Paul Trudell and Greg Paus. The homeowners requested all recycled materials which would save money and reduce consumer waste. I would feel extremely comfortable in that room. It’s a bit drab in color and maybe they want it that way but I would add a little throw just a touch in an area rug. Then, it would be much more cozy, don’t you think?

Scan0005The second photo is of a home by a Milan fashionista, Zem Joaquin. She is eco-editor for Home and Garden magazine and has a blog called EcoFabulous.com. She also chose reclaimed materials for the home..

I love the two different styles shown here. One is extremely eclectic with the Asian influence and then the modern beam and straight sofa lines. The traditional mix of furniture and accessories are perfect in my opinion. And, I love the black backdrop of black recycled paneling above the fire place. She chose to paint it in a gloss finish which is typical of the Chinese enameled furniture we’ve seen back in the 70’s.

The more relaxed atmosphere is definately more true to the arts and crafts nature but they both have that warmth due to the stone.

I think nature around us soothes the soul. Keeping everything environmentally safe is a great feeling as well. Knowing that you can breathe easier and have a safe environment is also eliminating stress in it’s own way.
