Over the past year, I’ve noticed a lot of change in my industry. Along with the decline of the housing market, so goes interior design because when people aren’t buying new homes, they’re not buying new furniture or draperies and not painting their walls. It’s all coming to a head right now during the slowest summer we’ve experienced since being in business, but I’m think there is a silver lining to this all.

I’ve realized that my quality of life lately hasn’t been where I’d like it to be. I fill my life up with some many “things”. I’m a business owner trying to grow in an industry that has seen better days. I’m a home owner and landlord to several properties. I’m an artist still in the midst of discovering my style and talent. On top of all that, I’m a wife to a loving husband who doesn’t get to see as much of me as he probably wants. Somewhere in all that, I try to squeeze in time for myself and, if possible, family. It’s become a bit too much and I’ve given a lot of thought to streamlining the way I do things, starting with my business.

Conceptualizing and finalizing a look for a complete surround of the home is where my talent exists, and where my client’s money should really be focused, not the miscellaneous administration and management that comes after the fact. My best stuff comes right from my initial visit to the home and asking the right questions and my head starts spinning with ideas. Then I go back to the drawing board and put together the whole entire theory for color, design and style for all furnishings and lighting. That’s the WOW! People love that.

Once I give them the foundation, clients will have the freedom to go to any contractor they please. This saves them money and time and I get to run off into the sunset knowing I made a home run.

Low stress for all. That’s the way life should be.
